GIPB | Walloon Region : Obligation to Install Individual Meters
Since August 2008, it has been mandatory to install an individual electricity meter and an individual gas meter in all new homes or those undergoing major renovation works in the Walloon Region. For apartment buildings constructed before August 2008 that have not undergone such works since that date, the legislation provides for a transitional period to comply, ending on December 31, 2023.
Therefore, starting from January 1, 2024, all homes must be equipped with an individual electricity meter, and if applicable, an individual gas meter.
The owners of apartment buildings who have not yet carried out these installations are required to do so at their own expense, by contacting the distribution network manager.
